9th Annual Niagara Social Justice Forum – February 6th, 2016

Hello and Welcome!

We are very pleased to announce that the 9th Niagara Annual Social Justice Forum will be taking place at Brock University on February 6th, 2016!

Hosted by the Social Justice and Equity Studies (SJES) Graduate Program and the Social Justice Research Institute (SJRI) at Brock University, the 9th Niagara Social Justice Forum (NSJF) will include a day-long program of concurrent activities, such as workshops, performances, exhibits and information tables in a fair-like atmosphere. This event typically attracts over 150 people from the surrounding communities and explores a wide range of issues. The main goal of the NSJF is to build relationships between student groups, researchers, activists and community organizations working on issues of social justice, difference and diversity.

The theme for the 9th Annual Social Justice Forum is Building Solidarities, a timely theme to think on in the present moment of connectivity and relationality.

We are also very pleased to announce that there will be a showing of Guswenta: Renewing the Two Row Wampum accompanied by a panel presentation on the evening of February 6th, 2016 at the Sean O’Sullivan Theatre (Brock University).

The film, Guswenta, documents a three week canoe trip down the Hudson River organized by the Onondaga Nation and Neighbors of the Onondaga Nation in the summer of 2013, to NYC, where the team participated in the United Nations International Day of the Worlds Indigenous Peoples. The campaign fostered Indigenous leadership for environmental clean-up and preservation.

A panel presentation following the film screening will include members of that original Two Row Renewal trip. Inspired by their transformational experience, they are now involved in organizing the Two Row on the Grand canoe trip (July 2-10, 2016).

Please view the trailer for Guswenta: Renewing the Two Row Wampum below.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you at the 9th Annual Social Justice Forum on February 6th, 2016!!!
